What You Need to Know About Your Nissan Key Fob
So you've lost your Nissan key fob or it just stopped working. Before you panic or contact the dealer, look back and look at where you last used it.
It's not that difficult to replace the battery on your Nissan key fob. It may seem daunting initially, but you'll get the ability to do it quickly.
Smart Keys Keys
The key fob that was included with the key fob that came with your Nissan is a crucial element of the car's sophisticated keyless entry system. It communicates with the vehicle's electronics to unlock doors and begin the engine. It also has an attractive design, making it easy to carry in your pocket. A key fob also offers features that make life easier, like the lockout protection feature that ensures you won't accidentally leave your vehicle with keys inside.
Smart keys operate wirelessly unlike previous models that required you to insert the key into the ignition slot to access the vehicle's internal systems. Nissan detects when you approach your vehicle and activates the Intelligent Key's internal functions. This can include opening and closing the doors, raising or lowering the tailgate, and even starting up the engine.

Certain smart key models come with a valet key hidden in the metal. The key can be pulled from a release found on the back of Smart Key fobs to lock the trunk or glovebox before giving it to valet. The Smart Key fob has a charging pocket that can be used to charge the battery when it is not in use.
If G28 Car Keys fob isn't working as it should, then you'll need to replace its batteries. Most fobs use CR2025 or CR2032 batteries. Instructions on how to replace the batteries are available in your owner's manual.
Intelligent Key Fob
With a Nissan Intelligent Key Fob you can unlock your car's doors and begin its engine with a push of one button. You can also use presets that meet your needs. For example, you can adjust the seat and mirrors to maximize comfort. You can also manage the music via your phone, meaning you don't have to leave your car.
Intelligent Key Fobs have an antenna built-in which sends signals to your vehicle when you press a button or approach it. When your vehicle is notified, it will activate the system, opening doors or locking them, starting the engine, as well as opening the trunk. If you'd like to test out the fob, stand at a distance from your vehicle and press the buttons. If the lights flash or the horn sound, you know that you successfully programmed your Intelligent Key Fob.
Like all remotes, Intelligent Key fobs require batteries to operate. Our Parts Department will help you quickly and efficiently replace it if yours runs out. To do this, simply remove the key hidden in the lock and access the battery compartment of your key fob. Replace the old battery with a brand new one after taking out the old one. Make sure that the positive side of your new battery faces in the same direction it did in the previous one. Close the compartment for the battery, and then put the key back to its concealed place inside the case.
Remote Start
Nissan remote start lets drivers to cool or heat their vehicles from outside provided they're within the operating range. The ignition on the car is activated when the driver presses an appropriate button on the key fob or smartphone app. Remote start systems can also activate the climate control so that the driver is able to set their preferred temperature. Some systems feature two-way communications that lets the driver observe what's happening in their vehicle.
If the remote start feature of your car isn't functioning, the most frequent reason is the low power of the battery. The key fob has a small, replaceable battery, which lasts about two years before it's time to be replaced. The battery can be replaced easily, but you will be required to be aware of the location where the hidden key is on the Intelligent Key Fob and how to open the compartment for the battery.
Flip your fob upside down, and press the hidden latch on the backside of the keypad. Once the key pad is fully opened remove the battery and replace it with a new one, making sure that it is in line with the size and shape of the battery that is in use. Before closing the case's outer, make sure that the hidden key is inserted, and that the key fob is reassembled correctly. Our parts department is able to assist you in replacing the battery in your Intelligent Key fob.
Lockout Protection
Lockout protection prevents annoying lockouts due to the impedance relay failing. A special module within the power control unit watches for impedance relay activity and then shuts off the output. This feature is only available for vehicles equipped with the Smart Key system or through the vehicle personalization menu.
Many serious accidents have occurred because an equipment started running when it was supposed to be completely off to prevent maintenance or repairs. These accidents are usually caused by energy that was not released properly. Lock-out tag-out (LOTO) systems help to prevent these incidents by ensuring that the machines remain off until the person who is authorized releases them.
The LOTO system is made up of a number of locks, tags and other devices that secure, isolate or shut off a machine from an electric source. All "affected", "authorized", and "qualified" personnel must be instructed in the use of lockout/tagout devices. These devices include but aren't restricted to chains, locks, padlocks, wedges, adapter pins and self-locking fasteners. Each device is clearly identified and labeled, with the date and the time of application, the name of the authorized individual and the reason for the tag-out or lockout (repair maintenance, repair, etc.). It must be stated clearly that these devices will not be removed until the LOTO procedure is complete.
